LastPass Security Breach – What Happened?
LastPass is a password manager that stores your passwords and personal information in a secure, encrypted database. However, recently Lastpass was reported to have a security breach. The incident that occurred was source code and some proprietary LastPass technical information was stolen.
LastPass had a response to the incident and they have said that they implemented containment and mitigation measures and hired leading cybersecurity and forensics firms.
An investigation is ongoing, they have reached a state of containment and have implemented additional enhanced security measures, but have seen no further evidence of unauthorized activity.
What Does It Mean for My Passwords?
When LastPass was breached, they committed an instant investigation in which there was no evidence that this incident involved access to customer data or encrypted password vaults.
An employee of LastPass said: “It is unlikely that the stolen source code will give the criminals access to customer passwords”. This gives customers of LastPass hope that their passwords are safe and that the company is looking after their customers’ passwords.
What Should I Do?
For the time being, there is nothing you can do. If LastPass is being honest about their containment of the threat, everything is fine for now. There is nothing that suggests that they aren’t.
